Megyn Kelly,  the host of her live-audience, morning show “NBC Megyn Kelly Today,” has been under fire for the past week about comments she made on her show Tuesday, Oct. 23. On Tuesday’s show, Kelly made comments defending the use of blackface during Halloween in a roundtable discussion.
“But what is racist?” Kelly said. “Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.”
Her comments set off a firestorm on social media and also drew rebuke from her colleagues on “Today.”
Kelly did not host her show as scheduled on Thursday morning and the network replaced her live telecast with a pre-taped episode. Friday episodes are normally pre-taped.
Oct. 26, NBC canceled the anchor’s show in a short statement reading, ” ‘Megyn Kelly Today’ is not returning. Next week, the 9 a.m. hour will be hosted by other Today co-anchors.”
Neither Kelly nor NBC have come out to say what Kelly’s future entails. Kelly, as of now, is still an employee of NBC, and is moving to a different department. Kelly is just one year into her three-year, $69 million contract.
