Meet your fellow student: Melanie Pancoast

Meet your fellow student: Melanie Pancoast

Q: Melanie, Pancoast, senior, What do you do in your free time?
A: I hang out with my friends and go to the movies. I used to do gymnastics, but now I coach kids in gymnastics.
Q: Where do you coach?
A: I coach at Tiger Academy of Gymnastics, which is at the Hearnes Center.
Q: How old are the kids you coach?
A: Six years old to 10 years old.
Q: Do you like it?
A: Yeah, I always have something to do, and I like helping the kids a lot. It’s fun because it reminds me a lot of when I used to do gymnastics.
Q: What’s your favorite part?
A: My favorite part is when a kid makes their skill for the first time, and then they are really proud of themselves.
Q: What else do you do in your free time? Do you have any pets?
A: I have a lot of pets. I have five dogs. But sometimes we actually really have six or  seven because we foster dogs for Columbia Second Chance.
Q: When did your family first start this?
A: About three years ago.
Q: Do you ever get attached?
A: The first couple of times we did it, I got  attached, but I got used to it. Puppies are still the hardest to give up because they’re so cute and helpless. I just like to know I can help them.
Q: Are you in charge of taking care of them?
A: My mom does most of the work because she’s technically in charge of them, but I don’t mind helping out. It’s not a chore or anything to help with the dogs because it’s fun.
