The first round of districts for football occurred Friday, Oct. 26. The Bruins, seeded number one in the district went against Francis Howell Central (FHC), seeded eighth. The RBHS team secured its victory (47-20) and improved [8-2] on the year.
“We came into the [Francis] Howell Central game with nothing but confidence, we knew they weren’t a great team,” senior wide receiver and strong safety, Wyatt Towe said. “We knew it was a game we should win easily and that’s what we did.”
The game started with Bruins defense, and were able to force and block a FHC punt. Junior inside linebacker and tight end, Will Norris, connected on a 43-yard field goal. With 5:22 left in the first quarter, the team led (5-0).
Furthering the team’s score, senior running back and free safety, Nate Peat, went 87 yards for a touchdown; the team was ahead of FHC (12-0) at the end of the first quarter.
“One issue that I think we as a team need to work on is starting the game off fast,” senior wide receiver Diego Alvarez said. “The past games we could have scored a lot more than we did, so I definitely think our Intensity in the first half is something we need to work on if we want to continue on our journey”
FHC came back in the second quarter with a 16-yard touchdown pass (12-6). This did not stop the Bruins, for junior quarterback, Grant Hajicek connected a 28-yard pass to junior running back and free safety, Peyton Carr (19-6). Then with only 40 seconds left in the quarter, Peat rushed 44 yards to score another touchdown (26-6).
With 9:17 left in the third quarter, FHC gained a touchdown (26-12), but two minutes later, Peat ran 17 yards for a Bruin touchdown. This was quickly followed by Hajicek connecting with senior wide receiver and  cornerback, Marcus Manuel on a 22-yard touchdown pass (40-12).
To finish the game off, sophomore running back and outside linebacker, Bryce Jackson quickly made his way into the end zone (47-12). FHC made one more touchdown pass but the Bruins were far enough ahead to keep their victory.

“I think the one thing that the team did to really secure this week’s win was the fact that we all came out to practice ready to go,” senior wide-receiver, Diego Alvarez said. “Practice that week didn’t really seem like practice, it seemed like we didn’t want this to be our last stop.”
On Friday, Nov. 1, the team will take on the winner of Francis Howell versus Zumwalt West in the district semi-finals on home turf.
“That game showed a lot of what teams have seen from us all year, and that’s been that we know how to score,” Towe said. “Every team has their weaknesses but we didn’t show much during that game.”
