Boys’ tennis throttles Hickman in blowout victory

The extensive history of RBHS athletics has shown that events against crosstown rival Hickman can sometimes become competitive. Yesterday, however, was not such an instance, as the boys’ tennis team pulled out a 9-0 blowout victory against crosstown rival Hickman in a match at Bethel Park.
The team played well,” freshman Kam Farid said. “We beat them because we had more depth and we had a good day.”
Sophomore Ashwath Elangovan agrees, pointing out that a slightly different lineup than usual was exciting to watch yesterday.
We didn’t do anything special today, but we just made sure to focus on every point in every match, and that’s what got the job done for us in the end,” Elangovan said. “I personally didn’t play as well as I would have liked, but sometimes that is the case and you have to play through it. I think I found a way and that’s what is most important.”
Yesterday’s win marked another victory in what has been a successful season so far of the Bruins this season. So far, they have maintained an exceptional 16-1 record for the season, according to MSHSAA.
After the emphatic win yesterday, the team is now looking forward to the next match on Friday, April 22, in which the RBHS will travel to MICDS High School in St. Louis to participate in the “Tournament of Champions.” Farid said the team is looking forward to the game on Friday, which will be one of the largest tennis tournaments in the state of Missouri. Elangovan, who also pointed out the possibility of winning the state tournament in May, agrees.
“I have a very positive outlook for the rest of the season after tonight’s performance,” Elangovan said. “Throughout this season, our team has realized that we have the potential to win state, and it’s all about the work we put in practice and matches. Now, a little past midway into the season, I think we have kept ourselves on the road to the state title, and I truly believe we can achieve it.”
