During the past few weeks, the boys’ tennis team has absolutely dominated the competition leading up to the district tournament in individuals and teams. Some notable wins include a 9-0 victory over Jefferson City, 9-0 over Blue Valley North, and 9-0 over Blue Springs South.
With varsity success against crosstown opponents Hickman (5-0) and Battle (9-0), the Bruins have also proven to be a tough opponent for rival schools. Thursday, May 9, in the conclusion of the team district tourney, the Bruins secured the 5-0 win over Timberland High School. Senior Kamran Farid has worked hard to stay motivated and keep improving throughout the season alongside his teammates.
“The biggest motivator for me to strive to do better is the people around me,” he said. “We, as a team, hold each other accountable for our actions. We want what’s best for each other, so we work hard to achieve our team goals.”
All season long, the team has worked to be consistent and stay ahead of the pack, leading the Bruins to victory after victory. The individual district tournament wrapped up Saturday, May 11, and the Bruins advanced all six of their players to the individual sectionals. While the players deserve credit for their hard earned wins, Coach Ben Loeb has led them there.
“Coach Loeb has always given me opportunities to push my boundaries as a player and a person,” senior Sejoon Jun said.
Individual sectionals finished yesterday. Although the results of the sectionals for individuals were not known at press time, team sectionals are scheduled for Saturday.
“To secure victory in the upcoming matches we need to continue performing at a high level and keep our intensity up, both in practice and in match,” senior Kavin Anand said.
The Bruins’ season is still far from over. Championships including both individual and team competitions occur between May 23 and May 25.
