Border Wars prove no problem for cross country

Taking six of the top eight spots in the boys’ competition Friday, Oct. 7, Rock Bridge cross country runners burned past more than 17 other schools at McNair Park.
In fact, seniors Caleb Wilfong (16:21.78) and Jordan Cook (16:31.12) and junior Nathan Keown (16:36.71) nabbed the top three spots, respectively, leading the Bruin boys’ cross country team to place first at the Border Wars Invitational. The team’s top seven runners placed in the top 11. The Bruins claimed first place standing with a combined team total of 17 points. The second place team, Webster Groves, had 116 points.
Not to be outdone, the girls’ cross country team also beat out 17 other schools to claim the first place spot. Four RBHS girls placed in the top 10 with two taking the first and second spots individually.
Sophomore Kayla Funkenbusch (19:55.90) and senior Sam Garrett (20:05.50) led the girls to a team victory where they claimed the top spot with 30 points.
The teams will travel to the Borgia Invitational Saturday, Oct. 15 for their final regular season contest.
