Halloween fosters self-expression with limits

Nora Crutcher-McGowan November 4, 2021
America has its fair share of stuffy rules and social norms, but “Halloween is the one time of year a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girl can say anything about it.” Cady Heron from “Mean Girls” was sort of right. Maybe not about the “slut” comment, but more so about self-expression and the costume aspect of the holiday.
IN STITCHES:
Sophomore Owen Dack wears an Eeyore onesie, and drew stitches across his face to represent the stuffed nature of the character. Theres this theory that the characters in Winnie the Pooh represent the seven deadly sins and different types of mental illnesses, and Eeyore is depression.

“I have been getting the back of my head shaved and colored for the last year. This is the first time I’ve ever done more than two colors. Fashion at True/False showcases different people from across the world, and for people here in Missouri its an opportunity for them to express themselves. That’s the fun thing about the weekend; getting to showcase yourself and your style.” -- Pass Holder outside Missouri United Methodist Church
