RBHS senior Jackson Steinkoetter is well known for his outgoing outfits, fun makeup and a loving personality. He’s nice to everyone who comes his way with a smile on his face
Q: What made you want to do your makeup the way you do?
A: “I often felt out of place. I never felt like I fit in anywhere or even like my own person. It took years of depression and isolation until I found something that helped me finally gain confidence and help me be free of the social standards that kept me down.”
Q: How did you get the confidence to dress the way you do?
A: “I learned that people will always have an issue with you no matter what you look like. For years, as a child, I was abused and bullied for certain characteristics and traits I had. I stopped caring what others thought of me because nobody’s opinion matters but my own. The only person that you will always have is yourself. Nobody will remember you even existed 200 years from now, so you might as well do everything you can.”
Q: When you put your makeup on, how do you feel?
A: “It makes me feel like a completely different person. When I do a look, I listen to a song and create a being that comes to mind from the song, [and] then I sort of become the character until I take [the makeup] off.”
Q: What would you tell other people who want to go [into] goth [makeup]?
A: “Don’t be scared to experiment and never put yourself in a box. Take inspiration and make something unique!”
Q: If you were talking to your younger self what would you say?
A: “Screw what people say to you. None of the things they say matter. Stay true to yourself.”
Q: How long did you know you wanted to dress like the way you do?
A: “I never thought I could dress this way because society taught me boys couldn’t have creative freedom, so I always admired from a distance.”
Q: When did you start dressing the way you do?
A: “It started with experimenting with layers and eyeliner sophomore year.”
Q: What do you call your dressing style?
A: “I used to put myself In a box and stick to labels, but as I advanced, I learned labels only hold you back.”
Q: How did you dress before when you were younger?
A: “I used to only shop from skater brands like Vans.”
