The varsity wrestling team lost tonight to Staley and Park Hill. Bruin wrestlers said the defeat was particularly frustrating because they did not live up to their own expectations.
“I did horrible,” senior Khaymen Hoelscher said. “I went out there on the mat, and I just forgot everything.”
However Hoelscher was not disappointed with the team’s overall performance. Staley and Park Hill were both skilled at getting inside ties as well as showing their aggressive attitude, Hoelscher said.
“They were both really good teams,” Hoelscher said, “and I feel like our team could have wrestled harder than we did, but overall, I think we did OK.”
Focusing on the positive, the Bruins remained united as a team throughout the experience. Seeing how well-prepared both teams were, Hoelscher said the Bruins would be drilling more and focusing on entering matches with a plan in their next tournament, the Lee’s Summit X-Mas invite this Friday.
“We played as a whole,” senior Andrew Yount said, “and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. Both the teams are always really well prepared, they’re always hard ones to beat, you just gotta move on.”
