Postseason begins for Lady Bruins soccer

Districts began last night for Bruin soccer players when they took on Troy Buchanan. The second seed Bruins won, so they will face the winner of the game between Battle and Hickman in the Finals Thursday, May 16.

While the soccer team is focused on success, a fast-approaching finals week means academics cannot take a backseat to sports. Sophomore Hannah Juengermann, a midfield for varsity, has to deal with the stress of schoolwork while at the same time getting ready for the final games.

“I personally have to completely separate school and soccer,” Juengermann said. “When I’m at practice or in a game, it’s soccer only. If I think about school or the stress of my homework, it negatively affects my game.”

The girls’ soccer team has a regular season record of 10-9-1 this year, and the Bruins hope they can continue to compete hard in this upcoming game.

Varsity Coach Scott Wittenborn said he likes how the girls have been playing and thinks they are a strong team.

“I believe in my team,” Wittenborn said. “I think that we are really starting to work well together and learn to get the ball where it needs to be in time.”

If the Bruins wins Thursday, they will play in the sectionals on Monday, May 21.
