First, I had a colleague stick a snake in an overhead projector, the kind you pull down. I pulled it down and the snake fell down on top of me, and I cussed really bad. I said things I shouldn’t have said in front of a bunch of students. I also was teaching and turned and the back of my pants caught on chalkboard and it completely ripped the seam of my pants, I was wearing really boring white underwear and it was really awkward. When I was in Japan, I had to speak in front of the entire school body so there was around 2000 kids in the auditorium. I walked out and began to speak, and I could tell there was giggling and stuff. Japanese girls have a tendency to giggle, but it wasn’t that kind of giggle, it was the pointing type of giggling. I had not zipped up my pants. So that was awkward.“”][TS_VCSC_Image_IHover ihover_image=”281936″ ihover_size=”full” ihover_style=”square” ihover_square_effect=”effect6″ ihover_square_direction=”from_top_and_bottom” ihover_square_border=”0″ ihover_square_shadow=”false” overlay_handle_color=”#2bb673″ ihover_title=”Ben Hulen” ihover_content=”“I like my baby. He farts and sharts. `{`My girlfriend and I`}` both found out together, it was like “dang that sucks” and we were just thinking of different options, but it didn’t take too long for us to be okay with it. The first couple months we were scared because my mom was the last person to know. That was kind of scary, just tellin’ our parents. Her mom guessed it, she was like “Hey, are you pregnant?” but my mom didn’t know, so I took her out to dinner and I had to tell her. Everyone was accepting. Well, my mom was like “man you’re a dumbass,” but she got over it. “”][TS_VCSC_Image_IHover ihover_image=”284519″ ihover_style=”square” ihover_square_effect=”effect6″ ihover_square_direction=”from_top_and_bottom” overlay_handle_color=”#2bb673″ ihover_title=”Leo Zhuang” ihover_content=”“What’s the root of your fascination with engineering?”
“It really makes things make more sense because engineering is so applicable to everyday life. Instead of seeing for example, a door as just a door, you see the hinges and the gears and the doorknob and how everything works. Everything just makes more sense. It’s so physical. In medical, you just have cells that you don’t even know if they’re actually there, but with engineering, everything’s there.“ – Leo Zhuang”][TS_VCSC_Image_IHover ihover_image=”284514″ ihover_style=”square” ihover_square_effect=”effect6″ ihover_square_direction=”from_top_and_bottom” overlay_handle_color=”#2bb673″ ihover_title=”Alison Schmidt” ihover_content=”“When did you know you wanted to become an orchestra conductor?”

“My friend Nathan See has been really influential, he’s 35 and he moved to Colorado a few years ago, but he was a really great mentor in my life and taught me a lot of my morals. One of the morals he taught me was just love everyone, even when you don’t agree with them, or you don’t think they’re a good person — they still deserve to be loved. When I went to Detroit on a mission trip, there were a lot of people that were smelly and they just weren’t good appearing, but once you talked to them and showed them love, they were good people.” – Evan Buchanan”][TS_VCSC_Image_IHover ihover_image=”284516″ ihover_style=”square” ihover_square_effect=”effect6″ ihover_square_direction=”from_top_and_bottom” overlay_handle_color=”#2bb673″ ihover_title=”Betsy Schlimme” ihover_content=”“What’s one thing you want to tell the general public about orchestra?”

It took four hours. `{`It makes me feel`}` like a ticking time bomb. I’ve been through a lot since like freshman year started. I’ve been to the hospital multiple times for major depressive disorder and social anxiety and PTSD from a lot of things that have happened to me. Then adding that on top of it I feel like it made my perspective on life worse than it already was. Like, you know, it’s not worth living; I should just kill myself. There’s been times when I was really close to that, like over Christmas break. I was in the hospital for trying to kill myself. My mom found me passed out on the floor cause I had alcohol poisoning. I think that was kind of a turning point, where I hit rock bottom. It’s kind of like a grey area now. I’m not like happy or sad; I’m just like there. `{`But`}` I’m actually kinda glad `{`I’m still there`}`, there’s a lot of things I would probably miss if I wasn’t here, like friends and pizza.“

This was extremely moving, yet so simple. It really seemed as if it brought out her true side, and didn’t seem fake like a lot of things do in the media nowadays. I think Bruins of Rock Bridge is a really excellent idea, and I would love to keep reading more little excerpts like this, as I think a lot of other students would too. The picture had a nice counter-balance between the story, and her emotions.
