Three days after defeating them in the Capital City Classic, the RBHS girls soccer team (7-8) took the pitch against the Sacred Heart Gremlins in Columbia. The Bruins scored early and often Monday night to blow by the Gremlins by a final score of 4-0.
The Bruins needed only 8 minutes for star senior Haleigh Fancher to score her second goal against Sacred Heart in as many meetings to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead which would prove to be all they would need.
“(Scoring first) was very important,” Fancher said. “We played them this weekend in a tournament in Jeff City so we knew after the first goal we would be able to shut them down and score more goals.”
Senior Laurie Frew, who also scored in Saturday’s match up against the Gremlins, added another goal in the 27th minute. Junior Sydney Griggs added another goal 9 minutes later and the scoring was capped by freshman Molly Gunter in the 52nd minute.
“The team definitely came together tonight,” senior midfielder Becca Adams said. “I think our passing was some of the best it has been all season, and everyone played with a lot of intensity. Hopefully this is the start of a winning streak for the rest of the season.”
