The RBHS junior varsity girls volleyball team rounded out their season with a strong finish, winning all ten games they played at the Hickman JV Tournament at HHS yesterday, Oct. 26. With the scores of the games of the final match rounding out at 25-17 and 25-18 for the Bruins, senior JV player Emma Briggs said the Bruins played consistently well throughout the tournament.

“There weren’t many low points in the tournament, as we won every game that we played,” Briggs said. “There were a few times when our energy was a little low, which made us not play to our full potential, but we came back quickly and came ahead in the end.”
Winning every game, the climax of the tournament came during the championship match against Blair Oaks. Having played Blair Oaks before in the tournament and during the senior matches, Briggs said the team wasn’t particularly nervous at any point during the game, though they were anxious to play well since they knew this would be the last game they played together.
“In our championship match, we were down a few points at the beginning of the games, but that just made us want to fight harder,” Briggs said. “Our team was aggressive throughout the game, and we really focused on eliminating errors and communicating. Our main issue earlier in the day was that we weren’t very consistent with our energy levels, but we definitely were during the championship game.”
Despite a fast offense and some quick hitters, Briggs believes Blair Oaks struggled with a lack of communication and fell apart when the Bruins put pressure on them. This, combined with the Bruins’ ability to be aggressive, adapt and communicate throughout the game, ensured a victory that lived up to the team’s hopes for their final game.
I think we played incredibly well,” Briggs said. “We were expecting to work really hard and put up a fight. We knew we were going to do everything we could, and come away victorious.”
