“We had kind of expected to win [yesterday] because we had already beat[en] this team twice,” senior Kay Fisher said, “but we knew we’d still have to play well.”
The girls already qualified for state individuals and doubles Oct. 11. Sophomore Sophi Farid and junior Maddy Kayser qualified individually, beating West Plains in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0 respectively. In doubles, Fisher and freshman Phoebe Boeschen won their match 6-0, 6-1, and senior Savannah Everett and sophomore Allison Baker won 6-2, 6-1.
All state matches will take place this Friday, Oct. 21 at the Cooper Tennis Center, where the girls look to defend their championship title from last year.
“State is going to be a fight. We are going to have to play confidently and fight for every point,” Fisher said. “We have very high expectations to win it all.”
