Missouri is one of six states to push for Bible literacy in schools this year. Missouri House (HB) Bill 267, written by Republican State Rep. Ben Baker of Missouri’s 160th District, would give schools permission to teach elective classes on the Hebrew Scriptures, as well as the Old and New Testament of the Bible in the context of “contemporary society and culture, including literature, art, music, mores, oratory and public policy,” according to the bill text.

Although today’s adolescents grew up in the age of the internet, the era of social media is more recent than teenagers may realize. Social media cannot exist without widespread online communication, making the platform a late-20th and early-21st century phenomenon.

Texting and driving is, and has been, a major issue of concern for parents, law enforcement and others. A new bill looks to encourage drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
