For the third year in a row, the RBHS girls’ golf team won the Class 2 District tournament held at Fred Arbanas Golf Course in Kansas City on Thursday, Sept. 29. The team totaled 353 points, outscoring runner up HHS by 23 points.
When we found out that we had received first place “I was thrilled and excited not only that we won districts but also that we all placed in all districts,” junior Makayla Baker said.
To individually place in all districts, each player had to place in the in the top 15 at the tournament. Senior Morgan Reimler tied for third place with 86 points; junior Kaitlyn Marsha and Makayla tied for 5th with 88 points; sophomore Amanda Baker tied for 8th with 91 points; junior Megan Goree tied for 13th with 95 points.
The team was the only team at the tournament to have all its individuals score in double digits, something that Amanda had expected.
“I knew we all played relatively close in scores and usually we don’t have anyone shoot in the hundreds,” Makayla said, “and I knew most [other] teams would [have players shoot in the hundreds that day].”
The team now looks to defend its sectional title tomorrow in Springfield.
