It’d be an understatement to to say Mizzou commit Cole Evans had a good day at the plate against the Blue Springs Wildcats in today’s 6-0 win at Rock Bridge Field. Evans batted in five runs and was a triple away from the cycle, hitting a single, double and a three-run homer, bringing the Bruins record to 21-5 on the year.  
“I go into every at bat looking to make a play,” Evans said. “Today I just made solid contact and was able to read a lot of the pitches I was thrown. Luckily, that translated into a win for us.”
The person most elated with Evans’s performance, however, was pitcher Brandon Goins. The senior took the mound for the first time in three games, pitching four shutout innings after coming back from injury.
“The coaches really only wanted me to pitch one or two innings as a precaution and get me back in the swing of things,” Goins said, “but I was doing well so they ended up keeping me in for four. We have a great system going where both the offense and defense provides for one another. When guys are able to put up runs early in games like Cole did today it makes it significantly easier to pitch.”
Outside of Evans’s offense, batters like seniors Taten Lyngstad and Avery Jennings and junior Jordan Smith, who had a sac-fly in the fourth, provided hits in crucial places leading to the Missouri signee having his big day.
“We were feeling it early and getting as many runners on as we did really contributed to the win,” Jennings said. “We have so many guys that are capable of having big games or getting hits when we need them and that’s a big part of what makes our team special.”
The Bruins will face Jefferson City in their next game on May 3 followed by a meeting with rival Hickman on May 4 before beginning play in the district tournament on May 14.
“We’re just focused on playing each game like it’s our last,” Evans said. “If we keep that mindset I think we’ll be in good form come districts.”
