Coming of their 12-2 win versus Helias, Rock Bridge (13-6) won their ninth in a row as they defeated Smith Cotton by a score of 9-3 at home.
The Bruins, who played their sixth game in six days, threw Andrew Wooldridge against Smith Cotton’s Dalton Zaremba. The junior usually comes out of the bullpen for the Bruins.
Wooldridge allowed one run on two hits while striking out two and hitting two opposing batters in his first start of the season on his way to picking up the win.
“I was just able to locate my fastball,” Wooldridge said. “My curveballs were kind of spotty on it’s location. I just tried to throw strikes and do the best I could.”
Rock Bridge’s bats helped to support Wooldridge as well plating two runs in the first, two more in the fourth and breaking through for five in the fifth. Junior Matt Widhalm continued his hot hitting going 2-3 with a triple and an RBI.
Senior CJ Ardini delivered the big hit of the fifth when we blasted a two RBI bases loaded double while pinch hitting.
“I was going up and I knew it was a side armer so I knew I had to track the ball in and I knew it was tailing away from me so I had to take it the other way,” Ardini said. “When I stepped in there I was just ready to go and I took it to the left said and made something happen.”
Rock Bridge lead-off hitter Connor Brumfield blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Third baseman Logan Twehous and shortstop Curtis Holliday both finished the night with 2 RBIs apiece.
Rock Bridge will be in action again April 23rd as they travel to Boonville to face the Pirates.
