The girls tennis team procured their 15th straight win of the season Thursday, Sept. 26 against local opponent Battle High School. The Bruins won the match 8-1, with only sophomore Hannah Pohl being defeated 4-8 by BHS junior Clara Baldwin, ranked No. 1 on the Spartan team.
RBHS tennis coach Ben Loeb said the girls played very well, considering the fact that the top four players on the team were sitting out this match.
“We had a lot of girls step up and play at a higher position than they were used to,” Loeb said. “I thought they handled it well.”
Despite this comfortable victory, Loeb expects tougher challenges up ahead for the team. The Varsity girls will travel to Belleville, Illinois on Friday, Sept. 27 to participate in the Southern Illinois Invitational. There, the girls will face many teams, including Belleville East High School and Belleville West High School, which gave the RBHS team trouble in the past. However, Loeb believes that the girls will be able to pull through all of the challenges with a more practice.
“Pressuring our opponent and being more aggressively will help us [defeat our opponents],” Loeb said. “The last few weeks of the season, we will get tougher; we will be ready for any challenges.”
