Sexualized media representation damages young girls’ development, health

An overwhelming percentage of media that minors see presents sexualized characters, especially girls, even in content specifically targeted toward children. Visual media sends ideas to girls from a young age, and as they get older, this constant exposure to the objectification of female bodies can cause girls to internalize the sexualizing messages in the cultural environment they exist in, impacting them during identity formation.

Video games not to blame for rises in violence

The political discussion surrounding mass shootings in schools is peppered with fear, doubt and, to a great extent, video games. More specifically, it involves the laughable argument that violent video games have affected the American psyche by provoking violent thoughts in teenagers, pushing them over the edge to become mass shooters. Though scientifically inaccurate, various politicians including President Donald Trump and Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy support this rhetoric.
