Although I was old enough to remember Obama’s reelection, it didn’t have nearly the same impact on me as the 2016 election. This election introduced me to a world of American politics that is often unjust, repetitive and hopeless.

The federal government considers possession of illegal drugs as a criminal offense, and arrests people for misdemeanor paraphernalia ⁠— equipment that is used to produce, conceal, or consume drugs ⁠— or felony drug possession. Decriminalization isn’t the same as legalization, but it handles the possession of drugs as a public health problem rather than criminal activity.

Capital punishment, more commonly known as the death penalty, is the execution of a a person sentenced to death after conviction of a criminal offense by a court of law. Crimes eligible for the death penalty almost always involve murders.
