The girls swimming and diving team, led by head coach Peter Willet, kicked off its season Dec. 8. The team finished in seventh place, while taking first place in two separate relay events at the Marquette Relays.
Today’s meet had no individual races, but instead consisted of team events known as relays, where four swimmers participate for each team.
The lead up to the first meet of the season was long and hard, filled with hours of practice day in and day out. But the wait was worth it, as the team was finally able to hit the water in a real competition.
“It was really fun getting to be a team outside of practice and finally having something to show for the hours we spend practicing after school,” senior Maggie Washer said.
The start of any sport’s season is generally filled with hope and optimism for what is to come, and if today’s meet was any indication, it could be a very exciting year for the girls swimming and diving team.
“Everyone on the team is really chill,” Washer said, “and we all want to see each other succeed this year. From the way the meet went today, I know we are going to have a really fun season.”
