[dropcap]O[/dropcap]n Jan. 11, the Columbia Area Career Center (CACC) was scheduled to hold a public open house showcase, allowing attendees to get a chance to talk to instructors, participate in labs and view examples of student work. Due to inclement weather and the early release schedule, the showcase has been rescheduled to Jan. 30, strategic communications director Amanda Brown said. Visitors would have gotten a glimpse at the opportunities, such as class choices, available for the upcoming 2018-19 school year, according to a press release regarding the showcase.
Additionally, the Professional & Community Education office was supposed to have a sampling of adult programming and courses for public view, the press release said.
Randall Gooch, Director of Career, Technical and Adult Education at Columbia Public Schools (CPS) said the showcase was to show what the students do in the program.

At the showcase, all the program areas were to present. Brown said there was going to be a press conference to announce a new partnership with Moberly Area Community College during the event.
Junior Zainab Ibitoye was planning on attending the showcase as a student in the Human Body Systems class at the CACC. Ibitoye said while she was getting her classroom ready, she was informed by her teacher that the event would be rescheduled.
“I was kind of shocked because we were working for hours to prepare for the showcase and then it got cancelled,” Ibitoye said.
The showcase was going to have prizes, which were sponsored by CACC’s current partner in education, Big O Tires, the press release said. The sponsor was also planning on serving dinner.
Brown said the purpose of the event was to demonstrate to students, families and community members the courses and benefits of the CACC.
“The showcase is the only evening we open our doors to the community and invite them into every program,” Brown said. “People may make private appointments, however, the Career Showcase gives people [students, families, community members] the opportunity to meet teachers, see classroom environments and view student work.”
