Most everything related to sports has a lot of money floating around their programs in comparison to other important occupations as well as education priorities at large universities.
In the year 2016, Eli Manning made $45million throughout the whole year.  $8million of this came from playing on the field and the rest came from sponsorships and he didn’t even make it on the top 5 highest paid players in the NFL.  An orthopedist, the highest paid medical specialist, in 2016 would only make $421,000 throughout the whole year.“I believe that a doctor’s pay is very fair when you look at it on face value.” Dr. Chris Farmer, a doctor at Columbia Orthopaedic Group, said,  “ However, whenever you compare it to a football player’s salary it’s a bit bizarre.  I don’t believe that football players should be paid almost eight times more than a doctor.”
Most every large university in America dumps a lot of their scholarship money into sports, specifically football.  A kid who has a terrible GPA, class rank and a bad ACT score could get as much and in some circumstances more than what a student with a 3.8 or higher GPA, a very high class rank and an incredible ACT score just because they play football.
“In this sense I do not believe it is fair at all. I think that the sports scholarships should stay the same and academic scholarships should go up.” Athletic Director, David Egan said,  “Both parties work incredibly hard for what they achieve and they both help their careers massively, they should get the same amount of scholarship money too.”
Although I believe there shouldn’t be as much money as there is now in sports there is a very understandable reason why there is.  There’s a whole lot of advertising within professional sports and the attendance rate along with the cost of tickets racks up a whole lot of money.
