RBHS club, Heifer International, will be having a fundraiser Monday, Nov. 7 with Insomnia Cookies. 15 percent of the sales that Insomnia Cookies makes from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. will be donated to the club.
“Insomnia allowed us to fundraise with them as long as we advertise well. We put information about it on the InfoBruin and Insomnia made us some posters to hang around the school,” club co-president senior Helen Keithan said. “We have also encouraged the Heifer International club members to spread the word with their friends and families. People can buy cookies in store, order online or by phone.”
All the funds raised by the club will go to the international charity, Heifer International, Wright said. The organization raises money to donate animals and materials to families in developing countries to encourage self sufficiency.
“At meetings we mainly talk about fundraisers and our goal is to get as much as we can by the end of the year,” Wright said. “Last year we managed to raise $1250 through the Read to Feed program and this year we’re hoping to raise a lot more. The more people we can get to help us out, the better.”
The event is a change in pace from more traditional fundraisers like bake sales or doing these joint events with businesses closer to RBHS. Club co-president, Senior Nick Wright acknowledged the uniqueness of the event by joining with Insomnia Cookies which is downtown instead of a business closer to RBHS, but also believed it was a great fundraising method. Long time club member and former club president Elliot Bones agreed.
“The insomnia cookies event is a lot like the Shakespeares event that Heifer did two years ago in that it gets the club and its members involved with a business in the community,” Bones said. “It is important for people to participate in this event because it is an easy, fun way to raise money for Heifer and to support student involvement at RBHS.”
Make sure to support Heifer International by buying from Insomnia Cookies Monday, Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.

I think that it is really important for students to get involved not only in charity organizations at school, but also businesses in our community to bring Columbia together, helping others. People can come together and help those in need and have fun at the same time.

I really loved this organization. My great aunt and Uncle always donated animals to through Hiefer then for our christmas presents they would be like “congrats! your gift is the gift of giving. One goat (or chicken or other animal) has been donated in your honor” . I used to hate it back when all I cared about was getting stuff but after a while it felt good to be giving.
