As April drew to a close last week, many students spent the last few hours of the month readying for prom or studying for upcoming finals and AP tests. For the writers of RBHS, however, the end of the month brought with it the end of the first Camp NaNoWriMo session of 2016, and the end of a 30-day-long challenge to write a set number of words by 11:59 p.m. April 30.
Over the past four weeks, members of the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) Club spent their free time toiling away at their projects, writing everything from short stories to novel outlines to poetry as they worked toward larger word count goals they set for themselves at the beginning of the event. While some members found it easy to keep up with their word counts, others found themselves rushing toward the end of the month to finish their projects on time.
Such was the case for five members of the club, who tracked their progress with Bearing News through a podcast diary over the course of the month. For these five members, it wasn’t as much about meeting the word count goals as it was about the Camp NaNoWriMo experience itself.
