Three students detail their experiences with discrimination, as well as the instances of discrimination they have seen at RBHS. While out right racism and homophobia are dying out, subtle remarks that slam minorities have perisisted. Assistant principal Dr. Lisa Nieuwenhuizen speaks about the Columbia Public Schools Equity team that seeks to eliminate gaps between students and eliminate discrimination in schools.

I agree that it is ridiculous that people are being discriminated based on who they are. It’s not right for this to be happening in a school where everyone is supposed to get an equal opportunity to succeed. I feel like as a society, America is slowly realizing how racist or discriminatory they were in the past, but some people are still not getting how wrong it is to treat someone differently based on how they were born.
