Moberly Area Community College will offer “buy one-get one free” credit hours at any of their locations. Although the Columbia campus’ session for registration has passed, multiple other mid-Missouri locations offer similar sessions in the coming weeks.
“If they need public speaking, a literature class, [Composition] 1 – anything that they’ve got the prereq for if there is a prereq at all they can take,” MACC Director of Student Services Dave Byland said. “We don’t limit it to just certain classes. … The only real limitation is that it can’t be online classes.”
Byland emphasised that students could take advantage of the offering even if they didn’t plan on attending MACC in the fall.
“If you took [for example] Art Appreciation … it transfers to any four-year school in the state. Pretty much all of what we put on the table will transfer to other schools,” Byland said. “That’s kind of what we are, a transfer school.”
RBHS guidance counselor Rachel Reed said while students have inquired at guidance about the program, those interested should direct questions to MACC.
“It’s definitely something we’d encourage every graduating student to take advantage of,” Reed said.
Byland added that this program helps to increase enrollment at MACC, especially for students unsure of where to attend college.
“It’s meant to be an incentive to encourage graduating high school students to start their classes for higher ed in the summer…” Byland said. “What usually happens is either the student decides to take more than one class or they decide to not only take summer but fall classes with us.”
