On Friday, Jan. 31, the Lady Bruins swept past the Shawnee Mission West Vikings, procuring their 15th straight win of the season, making their record 15-2. Winning by more than 30 points, RBHS dominated the game, despite a small student section. With half of the students heading home at halftime, when the score was 33-13, due to the ice, and beginning with only about a quarter of the student section filled, the game was a quiet one.

However, the Lady Bruins would not need any student support.

Crushing the Lady Vikings 67-36, the Lady Bruins started off the game with a 20-0 point streak well into the first quarter, leaving 2:15 on the clock before the Lady Vikings were able to sneak in a couple points. Starting off the second quarter 24-5, the Lady Bruin began putting in reserve players, who held their own against the Shawnee Mission starting lineup. RBHS starting Guard senior Kayla Cheadle played for a total of 12 minutes and score two points in that time. The rest of the game, she spent cheering for the reserves.

“It was nice to see how we worked through our whole varsity lineup,” Cheadle said. “We got to work on and clean up a lot of things, like always having 5 box outs. I think we played very well tonight and worked well as a team.”

All in all, the game was a blowout. By the time the fourth quarter started, the score was 51-30 and all of the RBHS players on the court were from the reserves. They went on to win the game for the team, limiting the Lady Vikings score to less than 40 and almost doubling the Shawnee Mission score.
