Each December at my church, it is tradition to have an evening in which we decorate the sanctuary with wreaths, ornaments, and a Christmas tree. We have come to call this event the “Hanging of the Greens.” This year’s hanging of the greens was this past Tuesday.
What you must understand about my church is that we are more than a congregation. We are very much a tight-knit family. There are, on average, somewhere around 50 0r 60 people in attendance on Sundays. Everyone knows everyone, which can be tiresome at times, because there aren’t really very many secrets. In the end, though, it’s wonderful to have so many good people surrounding you.
It has been tradition, for a very long time, to have the children from the congregation carry in the nativity pieces to the table each Sunday morning at the beginning of the service. In fact, I carried a few nativity pieces myself as a small child.
