Investigators are currently pursuing a case involving an alleged robbery that occurred on the third floor of the Happyville Apartment complex in Jefferson City, Mo. today, Nov. 19.
In a press conference concerning the crime, Lt. John Hotz from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, stated that the robbery occurred in the hallway of the apartment complex and there was an unknown weapon used in the crime. The motive behind the robbery is uncertain at this time, but is under current investigation.
“At approximately 10:02 a.m. on Nov. 19, we were dispatched to a possible breaking and entering at 101 Happyville Apartments in Jefferson City, Mo.,” Hotz said. “Upon arriving we were met by a resident of the apartments who stated that there was one person unconscious on the floor next to apartment 2B inside the complex. They stated someone was seen running from the scene of the crime.”
The victim on the scene, Tristan Lamb, was standing outside of her apartment door when she received a blow to the head, resulting in a loss of consciousness.
“I just got hit in the head whenever I was going to the grocery store,” Lamb said. “I was standing outside my door, looking for my keys and then I got hit.”
According to Col. Renata Williams, head investigator on the crime scene, Stephen Crook, 18, was taken into custody as a suspect. He is under questioning at the Sheriff’s Department in Jefferson City, Mo. It is unknown if Crook has requested a lawyer, but a court case will soon follow.
“He has not been charged yet. He is being held on a 24-hour hold while we continue our investigation,” Hotz said. “Once we get all our facts, we’ll turn those into the prosecutor and then he will determine the charges.”
Hotz confirmed that the suspect, Crook, fled the scene of the crime but was apprehended shortly afterwards at a nearby location.
Peyton Friend, a witness on site, confirmed that a man was seen running away from the apartment complex following the alleged crime. Lamb was also present, yet could not confirm that the individual that assaulted her was Crook. She refused medical attention, but when asked about the suspect she claimed that she “saw a glimpse of his face,” confirming that the perpetrator was indeed a male.
“There was somebody who was injured and we are looking into it … she’s fine as of now,” Williams said. “We have somebody we’re questioning that is going to be going through the questioning process.”
The crime is still under investigation in order to uncover more evidence to support a court case. Additional information will be released to the public as it is found and confirmed by investigators.
“Right now we’ve talked to the three people that were there initially when we responded,” Hotz said. “We will have officers that will conduct follow-up interviews with other residents to see if there was any additional information.”
