Swimming and diving came away from this weekend’s meet at Parkways South with another qualification from freshman Katy Lydon. Lydon qualified for the 500 freestyle and amazed her teammates.
“It’s always really exciting when someone qualifies,” senior Maggie Washer said. “We were all cheering, and she was really close, and we were all nervous she’s just missed it, but she pushed through, and that’s a really hard race to qualify in, so that was pretty impressive.”
While the girls were scheduled to compete at the Kansas City Invitational this weekend, they will not be going. Because some of RBHS’ club swimmers will be competing in a CSC meet in Florida, head coach Peter Willet did not want to wear out the swimmers, especially with all of their overnight meets. Although the team has qualified only two swimmers so far in multiple events, there is still time before state.
“There’s a lot of people that have qualified and there’s still four weeks for more people to qualify,” Washer said. “There’s always hope, especially for relays and stuff where we can improve pretty quickly.”
