Just days after defeating Rockhurst High School, the boys soccer team (2-1) continues to show its ability to come together as a team. In a game against Rolla (0-1) today, the Bruins defeated the Bulldogs 2-0.
Junior Cooper Smith scored the first goal for Rock Bridge in the first half, and the Bruins kept the lead when freshman Tarnue Tyler scored to put another in the net for RBHS in the second half.
Team members said their eagerness to defend their win against the Hawklets, the state champion favorite, motivated them throughout the game.
“If we didn’t win tonight,” senior Ryan Stanowski said, “the win over Rockhurst would have been seen as a fluke.”
Already aiming for a spot at the final four to defend and even surpass their third place finish from last year, the Bruin boys take every victory with a hint of humility. Because it is still early in the season, the boys are still growing and developing as a team, learning to work with each other and to put themselves in a good position for post season.
“I would say we are always trying to prove ourselves, especially early in the season,” Stanowski said, “because the beginning of the season shows our identity as a team and where we’re headed.”
