The humor was on the crude side, and it reminded me less of a chick flick than something a guy would enjoy watching, especially with all the nasty things that were coming out of both ends of the bridesmaids. Yet I continued to find myself literally on the floor laughing.
Plus, I am in love with Kristen Wiig (“How to Train Your Dragon“) and Maya Rudolph (“Idiocracy“) — both from Saturday Night Live — who tend to be more all-around-funny type people. They weren’t afraid to get down, dirty and destructive.
The movie follows the chaos of planning a wedding and the major rivalry between the bride’s long-time friend — the bridesmaid, and the bride’s new friend — the maid of honor. Their sneaky attempts at gaining the favor and attention of the bride guide the movie through hilarious fighting, sabotaging, outbursts and breakdowns.
The message of the film was touching. It taught me to cherish true friendships and showed how far some would go to show how much they love each other. It also underscored the fact that life is what you make of it and that one leads the direction of their life.
Still, there were some pretty un-womanly parts in the movie, but it didn’t make it any less of a chick flick with all the wedding planning, competition and dirty sabotaging. This was definitely one of the better flicks I’ve seen, even surpassing my “White Chicks“ standard.
It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me cringe.
