Just like the game last Friday night against Hickman, the boys basketball team stepped onto the court for the sectional game only minutes after their fellow Bruin girls basketball team’s victory in Rolla.
Both teams dominated sectionals, with the Bruin boys (24-4) beating Rolla (19-8) 72-47, also winning the sectional title. Although the boys ended with a 25 point lead at the end, the early minutes of the game were harder for them than usual.
“We just had a really slow first half,” junior Travis Jorgenson said. “We had to come out with more defensive intensity in the second half and get more transition buckets.”
The boys were able to overcome their lethargy once they were back on the court, and were able to beat back the Bulldogs.
On Saturday, March 3, the boys will play Nixa (28-1) for the quarterfinal title in Springfield.
The Bruins played the Eagles in their second game of the season back in December, defeating them 77-69; RBHS has been the only team to outplay Nixa this season. They are ready to face the Eagles again, but do continue with caution.
“I think we’re all focused and really want to win so we should be ready,” Jorgenson said. “Hopefully we can get a win, but obviously, they’ve won 28 straight games so we’ll just have to play really well.”
