Students ended the night caked in mud Thursday, May 9. Students played in the mud volleyball tournament where they dove and jumped in the mud as they tried to stay warm in the 50 degree weather.

Junior Jadyn Lisenby competed, and her team was eliminated after their third game. Lisenby decided to start Eat My Mud, her group, because she wanted to have a good time with her friends.

“Mud volleyball would allow us to do something fun all together at school,” she said. “To me it’s fun to participate in school events and raise money for the junior class budget for their senior year.”

Mud volleyball, in which teams compete on a very muddy volleyball\field behind the Career Center, has been a tradition at Rock Bridge High School since 1992. This raises the money needed to pay for senior activities like the

senior banquet, prom and many others. Costing $40 for eight people.

“I think the price is totally worth it because to me it isn’t even about winning,” freshman Aysha Palmero said. “To me it’s about having a good time with your friends and having fun, and I had a lot of fun.”

Roughly 180 kids attended on the 22 teams. The team names were creative, ranging from Mission Unlockable to Team Team.  Freshman Hannah Arneson was on team Donald Bump; her co-ed team ended with third place. She said her favorite part of the event was “having fun with my friends and getting down and dirty.”

Junior Maddie Marrero, who was on the Volley Llamas, helped set up the event.  A member of Student Council, she said her favorite part of her night also involved just having the chance to be with her fellow classmates without the drudgery of academic pressure.

“Me and my friends got to mess around in the mud and throw mud at each other before the games started,” she said
