As Suicide Prevention Week draws to a close, it’s vital to remember that though the week may be over for 2012, the issue must remain fiercely in everyone’s thoughts and hearts. Suicide, when it occurs, is devastating beyond belief. It seems distant, only ever affecting some remote person in the news, but the statistics are stunning.
For Americans between the ages 15 and 24, suicide is the third leading cause of death. Whether people care to acknowledge it or not, suicide, regardless of how unwelcome it may be, mutilates so incredibly many lives. Each and every human being owes it to those who have been affected to care, to offer compassion.
