The girls golf team started the season with a landslide victory against crosstown rivals Hickman High School. From 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, the team competed with fervor to win 150 strokes to 176, setting a new school record.
The Bruins played nine holes total with five varsity players. The top four scores of the five players added together results in the team’s final score.
While officials were calculating the final score, the Bruin girls were still unsure about a victory, junior Amanda Baker said. Although they were a strong team this year, the RBHS girls knew the Kewpies would be hard to beat. Now, by defeating Hickman with a comfortable margin,  the Bruins’ confidence for a another successful season has only increased.
“It shows that we have the potential,” Baker said. “But most importantly it shows that we truly are a team. We have faith and believe in one another. We can rely on our teammates to play their game to the best of their ability and when the round is over, we know everyone gave it all they had.”

Tomorrow the Bruins plan on revisiting their winning streak with a win at a tournament at Meadow Lake Golf Course in New Bloomfield.  Teams playing will include Jeff City, Helias and Hickman.
